Externships
ORAH offers externships to college students pursuing short practical experience in their field of study. These are typically completed during a student’s spring and summer breaks. Externs are closely supervised by employee volunteers who agree to walk them through day to day routines at the hospital. This experience allows students to apply their coursework learning to a real life setting.
Externships offer samples of career possibilities and it is a chance for students to observe and ask questions. This knowledge prepares students for the transition from school to career.
Job Shadowing
Our goal is to help young people explore firsthand the skills and education needed to succeed in today’s and future job markets, and to encourage the development of relationships between students and caring adults. It is our purpose to prepare the future workforce and to demonstrate a tangible commitment to supporting and improving our community.
Job shadowing is a year-round commitment to introduce young people to the world of work through job shadow experiences. Students can observe not only job characteristics and responsibilities, but also what the veterinary profession requires on a day-to-day basis.
*Due to the high demand of job shadows in our community, the allotted amount of time for this program is 1-2 hours per day, two days per week, and for a maximum of 4 weeks.
